Arrival When scholars are dropped off in the AM, they will be escorted to the cafeteria if they are having breakfast or to the hallway outside our classroom. I will greet students at the door at 7:30. If you know your child will be late, please have them eat something before they arrive. When scholars are dropped off in the PM at 11:15, they will be picked up at the Front Entrance. We'll head straight to the cafeteria for lunch. Again, if you know your child will miss our lunch time, please have them eat something at home. In order to ensure a smooth transition into Pre-K, it is best to establish your routine on the first day. Good-byes are sometimes hard, and your child may cry at first, but be assured that he/she will recover more quickly if you do not remain around for too long. Let them know that they will have a great day, and you will be eagerly awaiting the news of their time at school! Purple Sage has a "Hug Zone" inside the front doors that is perfect for goodbyes!
Attendance It is very important to have your child attend school regularly and on time. Much of what we do in class cannot be made up at home! Please have your child in school by 7:40/11:15. If your child will be absent, please call the school or submit the absence online.
Student Holidays/Staff Development Days There will be two extended Staff Development times during the 2017-2018 school year. These Student Holidays/Staff Development days will be October 9-10 & February 19-20. For more information please check the RRISD 2017-2018 Academic Calendar.
Meals Both classes will have a meal each day (breakfast available to AM students and lunch for both AM & PM Classes). Since our time together is only 3 1/2 hours, we do not have an additional snack time other than our regular meal time. If you would like to buy a meal at school, you can either send cash/check in an envelope labeled with your child's name, or pay online with our district payment system. If you would like to inquire about the Free/Reduced Meal Program, please ask for the form in our office to see if you qualify. Meals must be paid for in full until we receive notification that you have been accepted. (This process is not automatic. It may take up to 10 days to receive notification.) For more information about our meals, please visit the PSE website.
Daily Folders Folders are sent home each day. Inside you will find a newsletter from me, notes/information from the school, your child's work, and their daily homework/behavior sheet. Please review all items, initial the behavior sheet and return to school the next day.
Behavior Sheets Each child will receive a new homework/behavior sheet at the beginning of every week. Students may receive a variety of positive/negative marks. Sheets go home each day in the daily folder and are expected to be signed and returned the next day. Students have the opportunity to earn a "Principal's Pride" award for following school-wide and classroom expectations. I do my best to make a comment next to each mark so that teachers and parents are aware of why the behavior mark was given. If your child has ongoing behavior issues, you may be contacted to discuss matters further. I welcome your comments and ask for your support in helping our scholars be successful!
Clothing All students should wear sneakers or closed toe shoes each day because we will play and run outside. Sandals and slick bottom shoes can cause injuries. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately as the weather changes. We will go out for recess, even when it's cold! Please put an extra set of clothes (including socks and underwear) in a Ziploc bag in your child's backpack in case of an emergency. If there is an accident, I will send the dirty clothes home and ask that you put a clean set in the Ziploc bag. Be sure to label all belongings!
Toys Toys should not be brought to school. I have many materials for all children to use. Toys from home can get lost or broken and cause great sadness.
Celebrations Birthdays are always a special time! They will be acknowledged in our classroom; although, we do not have "Birthday Parties" at school. If you would like to send "goody bags" or something small, please contact me before hand. We are allowed to pass these out at the very end of the day. We also love to celebrate with cookies or cupcakes!
Volunteers There are many different ways that you can help in our classroom: 1) Assisting with field trips, special activities, class parties (Holiday Party, Valentine's Day Party, Last Day of School Party), 2) Preparing project materials at home (stapling, cutting, sorting), or 3) Assisting with school-wide events (Field Day, PTA, Family Nights). If you would like to be a volunteer, you will need to go to the PSE web site to complete the volunteer application process to become an approved volunteer. To attend a field trip/volunteer in our classroom, you must be registered in the RRISD system. This must be done each year.
